Printmaking techniques to stamp into Calgary

The Alberta Printmakers' Society and Artist Proof Gallery are presenting the third annual 'Print it Yourself! Festival' on September 15 to 16 from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm each day. This is a free workshop, although those who wish to take part in silk screening must bring their own light-colored T-shirt and there is a $5 fee.

Participants will be given hands-on instruction on various printmaking techniques, including drypoint etchings and linoleum block prints. It is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in printmaking to learn the basics. T-Shirts and tote Bags can be purchased at the festival for those who do not bring their own. It will also be a good way for those who do business with Calgary printing companies to get some background on the types of techniques they use. Alternatively, it could offer a route for those who are planning on a career in graphic arts to find out if they have a talent for printmaking.

The Artist Proof Gallery is also presenting the exhibit ‘Reclamation: etchings and lithographs’ by Curtis Bartone from September 5 to October 13. Several events will take place surrounding the exhibit. On September 7 there will be an opening reception from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm and, that same day, there will be a public lecture from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. On September 8, meanwhile, the artist will be holding a print demonstration from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Admission to the gallery is free and it is open from Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm each day.
