Calgary’s beginner orchid growers and orchidophiles who may like a refresher alike are being invited to attend an event that will teach them how to repot like a pro.
The basics of caring for orchids will be covered during the Orchid Care and Repotting Workshop, and it will be offered by There Growing Studios at 2205 33 Avenue Southwest. It will run for one and half hours, and tickets start at $16.46, including fees and taxes.
The class will cover how to move an orchid to a new pot, and it will explore which type of containers can be used. It is advised that glass is used so the roots can be observed. The facilitator will discuss why repotting matters and sources for orchid growing medium and bark, including trees found in the local area. The materials needed to rehome an orchid will be supplied, including a glass vase, and orchids may be purchased on site by anyone who does not have one.
Orchids, cacti, carnivorous plants and other exotics may require specialized culture, and a workshop provides the chance to learn these skills. Cheat sheets filled with plant care tips and other handouts for an activity can be prepared by area Stationery printers.
The Orchid Care and Repotting Workshop will be offered on July 21st. There is an opportunity to reserve a charcuterie tray and other refreshments when booking tickets via Eventbrite.
