The local beekeeper’s group is offering Calgary residents a chance to learn more about the how they can set up a hive on their own property.
The beginner’s beekeeping course will give those who take part the knowledge and skills they can use to become a successful apiarist, whether for their own personal use or as a small-scale commercial honey producer. The two-day workshop will cover the whole yearlong calendar of bee care, and includes a field trip to see a hive in a home setting in May, so long as the weather permits.
For those who have previously taken part in the program or who already have a good knowledge of apiary practices, a session of Making Money From Honey has also been planned for the same month. Taking the form of a one-day workshop, it will be facilitated by two experienced beekeepers who will be sharing tips and tricks people can use to set up a successful small-scale honey business. Comb binding can be used to craft economical yet sturdy educational materials for a course such as this.
These courses will be held on November 5 and 6 at the Parkdale Nifty Fifties Seniors Association. The date for Making Money form Honey will be announced closer to the date. Seating is limited so those who are interested in taking may wish to visit the organizer’s website to register as soon as possible.
