Help to fund hemophilia research with Carters Quest

The 2nd annual Mall in the Hall will take place at Airdrie Royal Canadian Legion on April 14 from 9am - 4pm. Admission is $2 or free for those aged 12 and under. All proceeds go towards Carter’s Quest to fund a cure for hemophilia.

The event will feature home-based businesses such as Tupperware, Pampered Chef and Discovery Toys. In addition there will be face painting, balloon artists, baked goods, food trucks and door prizes; extra tickets can be purchased for the door prizes. The door prizes will be donated by Calgary companies dedicated to helping the cause. Local printing companies will also likely be helping by providing the tickets and décor for the venue.

Carter’s Quest also holds a “Bids for bruisers” online auction which includes items such as signet photographs and Posters of the Calgary Flames. All money for both events goes to fund the Hemophilia Research Million Dollar Club which has funded over 60 research projects and has invested more than $3 million to improve the treatment of those with the disease and to find a cure. Carter’s Quest is named after a 3-year-old named Carter Ruklic who has severe hemophilia. Hemophilia is a disease in which

“the blood of a person with hemophilia does not clot normally.”

According to the Canadian Hemophiliac Society over 300,000 Canadians have the gene that carries hemophilia but only 8,000 people have been diagnosed in Canada. They estimate that not all hemophiliacs have been diagnosed. The society operates 25 Canadian clinics.
