Calgary’s Asian community will be hosting the city’s 13th annual Chinatown Festival this weekend. It is expected to be a day of fun, games, and delicious food.
The event’s head organizer, Brian Wong, has explained that the theme for the celebration is ‘unity in community’. It’s a time for everyone to get together and celebrate all that the area has to offer.
A local Print company has been called upon to create specially printed T-Shirts for the party, which will be on sale for $20. The proceeds from each sale will go to the Chinatown Beautification project. The T-Shirts will only be available at the event, so they are expected to sell out quickly.
There will be items for sale at various merchant booths, and visitors can take part in calligraphy lessons, with experts providing information about the long history of this traditional art form. The ‘Chopstick Challenge’ is also set to draw big crowds.
Those interested in the outdoors will enjoy the range of different sporting demonstrations and the University of Calgary’s solar powered car will be on display for revellers to marvel at. Members of the WinSport bobsled team will also be on hand to meet members of the public and answer their questions.
The festival will take place on Saturday between 2 and 3 Avenue East, and is set to run from 10:00am until 7:00pm. There is no charge to attend the event, and free parking will be provided at the James Short Parkade.
