Calgary walk to explore edible plants

An upcoming walk will offer an introduction to species of edible flora available in Calgary.

The Edgemont Wetland Area will be paid a visit by the participants in a walk organized by guide “The Wise Lass” Amanda Mitchell. It will include both native and introduced species. Mitchell has explained that, due to local bylaws, there will be no foraging permitted during this activity.

The group will learn how the site’s landscape informs its ecology, and tips for plant identification will be shared. Attendees will find out how they can tell if a plant is edible or a toxic lookalike, and ideas for incorporating edible plants into the menu will be discussed as well. All ages are welcome to get involved, and while pets may take part, they will need to be leashed at all times. Adult tickets are $40.00 plus fees and GST, while kids aged 12 and under may join in the experience free of charge.

Learning in another environment can be a very rewarding experience. A workshop offers a chance to do so, and custom printed materials for these activities can be prepared by area Stationery printers.

This introduction to the flora that calls the Edgemont Wetland Area home is on the way for September 14th. It will be kicking off at 6:00 pm.
