Calgary hosts successful CIBC Run For the Cure
Thousands of Calgary residents recently took to the streets in support of collecting money to help fund breast cancer research and support
The annual Canadian Beast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run For the Cure takes place in 60 cities and towns all across the country, and it’s the largest event of its kind. In Calgary, the runners gathered at Southcentre Mall with those who had survived the disease dressed in their best pink garb. The run stated at nine in the morning, and by all accounts, there was plenty of enthusiasm in the crowd. A company that provides wide format printing services could create signs, banners and other items that can help to keep the event as organized as possible while also helping to keep the spirits of the participants high.
The winning team for the day was “Group Gold’ which was made up of Tom Baker Cancer Centre nurses. They took part to show their support for Ms. Donna Nguyen, one of their colleagues who is currently battling the disease. According to one of the coworkers, seeing her come in for treatment to the place where she can usually be found treating other has really made it hit home.
All told, Calgary raised just under $1.33 million. The Breast Cancer Foundation will use the funds raised to support education, improvements in ways to detect the disease as early as possible, and community education.
