Calgary fire truck number 23 finds new home

Thanks to a new addition to the Central Library, children in Calgary will now have a chance to make their fire truck themed story times come to life.

Fire engine number 23 may not be actively fighting fires anymore, but it is still playing a role in the community. It has been installed on the ground floor of the facility, where it will be incorporated into the early learning program that the library plans on delivering.

The truck will be combined with book readings by first responders and other guest speakers who will also discuss topics such as fire safety. A printer can use the comb binding process to create inexpensive themed coloring Books for the children who participate in activities such as this.

The addition was part of an overall initiative to create early learning centres at branches across the city. It will remain in place for two years, and then the truck will be moved to another branch, so the children there can have the same experience.

According to Joe Zatylny, who is the Deputy Fire Chief, the department is pleased to have been asked to be a part of the plan, and its members are looking forward to participating in the different activates that will be taking place.
