Calgary workshop to be kind to mason bees

While many people may know that bees are important pollinators, they may not realize how many species call the Calgary area home, and an upcoming workshop will teach participants how they can offer one of these species a living space adapted to its needs.

Mason bees are a commonly seen species of bee in Calgary, and they tend to be quite docile or even friendly, as well as being very effective pollinators. The Wild Bee Store, which can be found at 5901 3 Street South East, will soon be hosting a workshop that introduces this species to the public, and tickets for the evening are available now.

The store will have an apiary expert on hand to discuss mason bees and teach people how to transform a backyard or other outdoor space into a bee-friendly habitat. The participants will learn how to utilize nesting tubes and when to place cocoons outdoors, as well as how to choose the best location for the mason bee homes. A discussion of collecting cocoons in the fall is also on the agenda.

Sustainability has become a popular topic in recent years, and workshops that provide tips for sustainable living and other environmentally friendly topics tend to be quite popular. A brochure printing company can craft handouts for these occasions.

The Create a Mason Bee Habitat workshop is scheduled for April 12th. It will begin at 5:00 pm.
