Calgary to explore uses of hypertufa

Hypertufa may be used to craft pots, planters and other garden decor, and a session at a Calgary garden centre will soon celebrate this material.

The Gardensense Studio and Greengate Garden Centre is welcoming the Calgary Rock and Alpine Garden Society (CRAGS) to its location to host the CRAGS Day: Designing, Constructing and Planting Hypertufa Troughs session. There are two demonstrations scheduled, and all are welcome.

The presenter for the activities will be demonstrating how to combine perlite or vermiculite with cement, water and peat moss to make hypertufa. Attendees will then learn how to use it to craft various items, and this will be followed by a planting demonstration. There will be a chance to ask questions.

A demonstration like this gives the members of the public who attend a chance to learn about a hobby, craft or other topic. Many organizers choose to order handouts from Stationery printers for the audience to take home so they can keep on learning.

The CRAGS Day: Designing, Constructing and Planting Hypertufa Troughs will be held on Sunday, May 17th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Gardensense Studio and Greengate Garden Centre, located at 1411 Macleod Trail S. The two planting demonstrations will be held at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. This event is open to the public, with no advance registration required to attend.
