The victory food garden movement was popular during World War II, and a Calgary event will show how easy it can be to grow food at home in modern times.
A four-week-long course that will be focused on growing food in the home garden has been scheduled for Palliser Bayview Pump Hill Community Hall. Kath Smyth will serve as the instructor, and everyone who attends will be encouraged to share their own tips and best practices with the group.
The session will combine lectures with other learning activities, and topics ranging from soil health to extending the growing season will be on the agenda. The value of crop rotation, crop and cultivar selection and making the most of the available space will be discussed. Container food gardening will be a part of the conversation too, and the final date to sign up for the course is March 4th. It is open to both Calgary Horticultural Society members and non-members alike.
Home horticulture can be a fun and productive hobby, and the opportunity to take part in a class or workshop like this provides the chance to learn more. Paper seed Envelopes, plant tags, planting zone maps and other custom materials for a function can be prepared by Stationery printers.
The Calgary Horticultural Society has set the start date for its Grow Your Own Food Course for March 11th. The final session will conclude on April 1st.
