Wangara troupers heading to Hollywood

Three girls from the Perth Circus and Dance Academy in Wangara will be heading off to Hollywood in July to take part in a competition of dance and circus routines.

The girls, Karla Wessels, Krystal Meakins and Sarah Gray will compete in a variety of dance categories which include acrobatics, jazz, trapeze and contortion at the 2019 World Championships of Performing Arts.

Principal teacher of the Academy, Jemma Gray says that contestants will present a 60 second routine hoping to make it through to the next series of rounds with the chance to make it all the way to gold.

With 60 other countries participating in the competition, Jemma expects there to be strong competition. All three girls have previously competed in state and national championships. Competitions such as these often use poster printing services to attract competitor entries.

National championships director, Lizette Hunt says this is an opportunity of a lifetime for the girls and hopes that it will open many doors for them.

Karla has been performing acrobatics for 12 years and is excited to be going to the championships. Krystal, who wanted to be an Olympic champion at the young age of four, said being part of the competition was a dream come true. Sarah is also excited to be going, although nervous, and would one day like to perform with the Cirque Du Soleil.
