For two long summers, the once-popular cafe has been closed for business. However, this summer will see the cafe open again. The cafe's new lease of life is all down to the great service of an island businessperson.
The saviour of the Geordie Bay cafe is Samantha Howe, who manages a Subway outlet on the island. The cafe will be open from 7am to 9pm serving breakfast, lunch and dinner - all accompanied by great coffee.
Samantha explained that owning a cafe has long been one of her passions. She said:
"With the lease of the Geordie Bay business available, it was an opportunity too good to turn down.”
Samantha will be specialising in Australian contemporary cuisine with a focus on fresh ingredients. She plans to build up the cafe during 2013, and intends to add an art gallery to the business. Local artists will be consigning their works to the gallery, with the hope of selling to tourists and local art lovers.
Along with the refurbishment of the cafe, a couple of new businesses will be helping to make Rottnest holidays and daytrips memorable. The Lane cafe and Simmo's Ice Cream have opened for business across the road from the island's bakery and the general store.
