Proposed Flynn Drive upgrade a step closer

A project that is set to be a major benefit to the industrial sectors of Wanneroo City, including Wangara, has received the green light from Council for detailed design and development preparations to begin.

The project involves upgrade works to Flynn Drive between Old Yanchep and Wanneroo roads and will extend 6 kilometres and turn the section into a dual carriageway with four lanes.

According to Mayor of Wanneroo Tracey Roberts, it is hoped funding would be secured from an external source and she added:

“Neerabup is expected to be one of the biggest industrial estates in Perth on completion, and Flynn Drive will be crucial to its economic development.”

She said the Neerabup sites covers 1000 hectares and at full capacity is expected to provide employment for in excess of 20,000 people while also supporting economic growth and local jobs within Wanneroo City.

Such major projects can also boost the need for industries offering everything from printing services to food and catering services.

Council believes that developing Flynn Drive will effectively connect the new industrial sector to key road connections that enable transport to local, metropolitan and regional areas.

The upgrade along Flynn Drive has been sought by the City since 2014 and has been the subject of a number of unsuccessful applications for funding from the Federal Government. However, this has not deterred the City of Wanneroo which continues to advocate to State and Federal Government to fund the project.
