Preparation for Australias annual Garage Sale Trail begins

Wangara, Western Australia residents are already preparing for the National 2016 Garage Sale Trail which has become a much anticipated event on Calendars across Australia.

The massive sale brings together an estimated 2.8 million items offered for sale at homes Australia-wide, providing an impressive choice for bargain hunters.

Garage Sale Trailer founder Andrew Valder said that since its introduction six years ago, the event had been adopted with enthusiasm by many communities keen to safeguard the environment while at the same time selling off unwanted furniture and goods.

He said the event last year saw an estimated three million items offered for sale from about 13,000 participating addresses across the nation.

Valder said the diversity of goods available added to the attraction, with everything from jetpacks to alpacas appearing in private sales Catalogues, and that many participants also teamed up with other garage sale hosts to create a treasure trail for buyers to follow.

He added that garage sales also provided an opportunity to declutter households, meet like-minded locals and even make a little money along the way.

According to Chairman of the WA Waste Authority, Marcus Geisler, an estimated six million tonnes of waste is produced annually by residents across the state, which represents about 2.4 tonnes per person.

He said while items around the house may no longer be required by some families, others may find them extremely useful.

Registering for the event to be held on October 22 is free.
