Food safety and hygiene approval goes public

A new rating programme for food safety and hygiene at local restaurants and cafes has been launched throughout the City of Wanneroo, including Wangara, Western
Australia.

The Scores on Doors rating programme will see food outlets taking part with display Posters, in distinctive colours of yellow and blue, bearing a food safety compliance rating that is fully visible to patrons.

The ratings will cover food temperature control, food handler hygiene, food prepared prior to service, sanitisation, cleaning and pest control.

According to City of Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts, the new programme would give people an opportunity to make informed decisions about where to shop or dine.

The regular inspection and rating of local outlets for food safety standard compliance is a normal practice for health officers from the City of Wanneroo, but Mayor Roberts said this latest programme would see inspection results become the subject of poster printing for public display on individual business windows and doors.

She urged residents to support all outlets taking part in the initiative, saying the city was fortunate to have many quality restaurants covering a wide range of cuisines.

Wangara's Mughal Foods is among the participating outlets along with Christo's Lunch Bar, Bib's Tuck Shop and Darch Fish and Chips.

Mayor Roberts said the Scores on Doors programme would help to keep the standard of food preparation and service at a high level throughout the city.
