Bushcare event in the works for Wanneroo

The City of Wanneroo is planning a Bushcare Day in Pearsall, just north of Wangara, and it is calling on volunteers to attend.

The two-hour event will have an educational focus as attendees learn about local bushland flora, and how best to care for native bushland reserves. Participants are invited to enjoy a morning tea following the ‘bushcare’ session. Learning will be hands-on, and water bottles, hats, sunscreen and sturdy enclosed shoes are recommended.

The event is being hosted in conjunction with local conservation group Friends of Voyager Park. Flyer and poster printing are tools often used to raise awareness of community interest and volunteer groups.

The focus of bushcare groups and events is to aid biodiversity conservation and bush regeneration in Australia, on private and public bushland. As awareness of and community support for the need for ecological restoration has grown across the nation, it is increasingly common to find bushcare events or groups as part of a local government programme. Often, professional staff or volunteer experts provide necessary training and equipment to support the endeavours of community volunteers. The point of liaison for the upcoming event is the City of Wanneroo Conservation Team.

The Bushcare Day will be held on Tuesday, 5 October from 9:30am to 11:30am, with participants meeting at the Scamills Way reserve. There is no cost to attend, but registrations are required.
