The residents of Wangara have the chance to see work from two of Australia’s leading artists at the nearby Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre over the next month.
The showcase of Jon Cattapan and eX de Medici is part of the Australian War Memorial’s travelling exhibition that takes work on tour around Australia to make it accessible to more people. Both have been chosen as official artists for the War Memorial and have spent time with Australian troops on peacekeeping missions.
Mr Cattapan travelled with the Australian Defence Force in Timor-Leste and created works depicting the interaction and communication between people. Ms de Medici followed troops in the Solomon Islands and tells the stories of everyday activities for troops on the island.
A special audio-visual display has been created by curators Laura Webster and Diana Warnes to give visitors more of an insight into the processes used by the artists during their commissions.
This is the only time the exhibition will be seen in Western Australia with the tour due to finish in New South Wales in November. Catalogue printing has been used to create a collection of the works on show, which is available to buy from the Australian War Memorial website.
The exhibition will be on show at Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre in Rocca Way until Sunday September 22. The gallery is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm between Tuesday and Friday and from midday to 4:00pm on Saturday and Sunday. Entry is free.
