In total, this centre-of-excellence project will cost $32.5m to complete and around $16.25m of this has been allocated by the state government. It will feature training facilities and pitches for high-performance and junior development and will also cater for community and grassroots football programmes. The elite facility will also be able to cater for training camps that host international and national teams.
Premier of Western Australia, Mark McGowan said the project, which is being made possible through a joint effort by the City of Canning, the Federal Government and Football West, is set to kick off soon, adding:
"The world game has been without a 'home' for too long here in Western Australia. When complete, this Centre will help develop WA's next stars of the game, like Trent Sainsbury and Sam Kerr."
He said the centre will be able to host 700 seated spectators with a capacity for near 4,000 at special events. In addition to two pitches created specifically for high-intensity and high-performance usage, the elite facility will also be home to a new gym and change rooms.
Major works such as these are often illustrated in a graphic design of the proposed development for greater visual clarity for all interested parties.
The project, which is expected to take about three years to complete, will occupy a vacant site in the Open Space section of Queens Park. The surrounding area within this precinct is also the focus of revitalisation plans.
