The Canning City Centre has received a boost following development approval for the expansion of the Westfield Carousel.
Residents in suburbs within the City of Canning, including Welshpool, Western Australia, stand to benefit from the success of the application, which the council’s acting CEO, Mike Mouritz, described as an important step in the city’s future.
He said it was a key component in the city’s redevelopment and described it as having the ability to bring the city centre to life by injecting a new energy level into the area.
The approval paves the way for major expansion that will see retail space increase by up to 50 per cent and provide a flow-on effect to other local businesses – for example, printing companies that cater for Stationery and promotional needs – according to Cr Mouritz.
As part of the application, it also plans to provide enhancements to the cinema complex and entertainment precinct areas, and to establish a town square to include playgrounds on Cecil Avenue.
Cr Mouritz said development within the central city area was progressing well. Construction is already underway on an eight-storey Lake Street building that will house commercial space on the ground floor and 108 apartments above. A mixed use nine-story development has also recently been given the go-ahead by the Metro Central Joint Development Application Panel (JDAP).
A one-hectare site near the Cannington train station has also been earmarked for residential development, although a final decision is not expected until midway through 2015.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
