Welshpool area aquatic centre receives accolade

The Cannington Leisureplex has joined 14 other aquatic centres in being named a Gold Waterwise Aquatic Centre at the recent 2021 Waterwise Recognition event.

The designation recognises centres that are achieving industry benchmarks for water efficiency and engaging in best practice water management. It is awarded under the Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program, which is a partnership between the Water Corporation and the Leisure Institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA).

West Australian Minister Dave Kelly praised the efforts of the award recipients and the program, acknowledging the importance of the water management initiatives. In a statement, he said:

"As climate change continues to have an impact on our water supplies, never has it been more important for local councils and aquatic centres to lead by example and help entrench waterwise actions across the community."

Situated close to Welshpool on Sevenoaks Street, the Cannington Leisureplex offers a broad range of facilities to the City of Cannington community, including indoor swimming pools, a gym, an indoor playground, sports courts, a function centre and a multimedia library, supported by a crèche and a café.

Flyer printing is a popular means to promote local services and businesses within a community.

The Waterwise Aquatic Centre Program, and other similar initiatives, are estimated to have led to a saving of over 900 million litres of water since 2008.
