The welfare of pets in Welshpool, Western Australia and surrounding areas will be uppermost during times of emergency following the introduction of a new Mobile Welfare Response Trailer by the City of Canning.
The first of its type in metropolitan Perth, the initiative paves the way for animals to be returned to their owners after major emergency situations. This, according to Council CEO Lyn Russell, is an important step to social recovery following a major crisis.
Russell said pets were an important part of families and it had been illustrated during recent emergency evacuations that many residents refused to leave their homes without their pets, putting volunteers, emergency service providers and themselves at risk.
The newly developed Mobile Welfare Response Trailer is equipped with a host of basic animal supplies to ensure they have enough supplies once the pets and their owners have been dropped off at a welfare evacuation centre, according to the CEO.
She said all Canning facilities allocated for use as welfare evacuation centres were attached to school ovals and sporting grounds, and would now welcome both owners and their pets during emergencies.
The Mobile Welfare Response Trailer will also be advertised on Flyers and Brochures during nonemergency times advertising community events at which it will be in attendance. Its first appearance was on November 6 and 7 at the Canning Show.Get a Free Quote for Flyers Get a Free Quote for Brochures
