Swimmers of all ages from Western Australia’s Welshpool and surrounding suburbs in the City of Canning are preparing to compete in this year’s Swim for MS.
To be held at the Riverton Leisureplex in High Road, Riverton, the event features teams of 10 swimmers with each group competing to swim the furthest distance in 10 hours. One swimmer from each team must be in the water at all times.
Entrants must swim 25 or 50 metre laps without the use of devices or swim aids such as flippers. There are no limitations on the number of laps conquered by individual swimmers before passing the baton onto the next person, but each must complete five laps to meet event rules.
Teams consisting of people with MS are permitted to break the rules if necessary, but are ineligible to take home the Most Laps Swum trophy.
The MS Society of WA is hoping the event, which has attracted support from residents and businesses such as local printing companies, will assist in achieving the fundraising goal of $150,000.
The event is also open to anyone who would like to take part but is unable to organise a team of 10. Simply register online, set a goal to swim on the day, and join in the fun.
Swim for MS will be held from 8am to 6pm on September 14th, with registration available from 7.30am.
