Public invited to comment on Willetton Library upgrade design

Residents from Welshpool and across the City of Canning are being invited to comment on Council's proposal for the Willetton Library refurbishment.

The move follows the first phase of community consultation by the City of Canning, which took place late last year. Council sought feedback from community groups and library users to help determine what each considered to be important features to be included in a modern library.

Conducted over a three week period, the community engagement process attracted input from over 4,300 people as well as many hundreds more completing the council survey online. An estimated 75% of participants identified a good collection of contemporary Books for reading and borrowing as being an important inclusion, along with peaceful and flexible spaces to study and collaborate.

The phase one feedback is now the basis of the current concept plan being presented for public comment. A graphic design of the proposed upgrades is often available during the consultation period to help illustrate the full extent of the final concept. A Council spokesperson said there was no time like the present to begin planning for the future in regard to library services.

Public comments will be accepted throughout the phase two consultation period, which will finish on May 31. Further information can be found on the City of Canning website.
