Picnic and ice cream mark launch of Page Park

Residents of Welshpool, Western Australia, and neighbouring suburbs throughout the City of Canning have marked the opening of a new park with a community picnic.

Free ice cream was a big hit with the children who accompanied their parents to the unveiling of Page Park by Commissioner Steve Smith.

The site has been designed to allow several groups to enjoy the facility at the one time by breaking it up into various spaces.

Commissioner Smith also praised the use of the community space, which boasts everything from barbecue facilities, a table tennis table and picnic tables to open grassy areas recreation.

Large eucalypts that have been maturing on the site for many years remain as part of the park’s design, according to the commissioner.

The council has also installed LED lighting for energy efficiency.

A children’s playground will keep the younger members of the community happy. It also includes a red slide, which was requested by a small child during a public consultation meeting.

During the opening on March 3rd, Commissioner Smith said the park was a great example of public consultation and community efforts coming together to create something exceptional.

He said the park, which is sure to be popular for postcard printing and community events, would be a great asset to residents for many years to come.
