Perth's first full-blown World Fringe festival, which has been running since 25 Jan 2012, has been an amazing success. Most of the events have been held in and around the centre of the city, but people from surrounding areas as far away as Welshpool, Cloverdale and Bayswater have come into the city to enjoy the many events.
There really has been something for everyone with cabaret, circus, art and theatre events. The comedy events have proved the most popular with many of them selling out completely.
This event has been great for amateur performers and artists, especially local ones, who have found new audiences. Some of the really fringe events; have proved to be the most popular. The bizarre love story about a spoilt brat, a hopeless romantic, two hobby-horses and a gold teapot told using verse, puppetry and animation is a great example of this. The play called All's Well That Ends Well was an unexpected hit.
The World Fringe has brought some fantastic opportunities for local businesses especially bars and restaurants. Even businesses not in the immediate area have benefited, especially printing companies who have been called upon to produce stacks of printed materials to advertise each event. Demand has been especially strong for those offering flyer printing and poster printing services.
Overall, Perth's first full-blown World Fringe event has been a huge success and will definitely be repeated next year. The Fringe is to run until 19 Feb 2012, so there is still time to catch some of the ongoing events.
