Budding chefs from Welshpool, Western Australia have joined with fellow residents of the City of Canning in a series of Dig in Dinners.
Note pads at the ready, local home cooks have been attending a series of events held at the Bentley Community Garden.
The Dig in Dinners is an initiative of the City of Canning to showcase fresh, locally harvested produce.
A spokesman for the organisers said attendees not only had fun, but also learned about urban gardening. In addition, the event provided an opportunity to meet new people while enjoying a healthy, nutritious meal.
Most of all, he added, the informal event gave participants a chance to broaden their skills and knowledge in the garden, as well as with growing vegetables, eating healthily and using fresh food in everyday cooking.
The spokesman said a local chef has been enlisted to create a special easy to prepare, healthy and low-cost recipe at each Dig in Dinner event.
Those who wish to try cooking the recipes at home are able to take a copy home with them, said the spokesman.
Entry into the Dig in Dinners is available for a gold coin donation.
The Dig In Dinners, which kicked off in June, still have three more events to be held on September 3, 17, and 24, from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Bentley Community Garden, Nyamup Way. The dinner will follow in the Scout Hall.
