A Welshpool training centre will be hosting a comprehensive course in eddy current testing in 2025.
An extensive course entitled “Eddy Current Welds Level II” will soon run at the TCS NDT training centre in Welshpool. The 80-week course will commence in February and includes both a practical and on-paper exam. Companies running classes, workshops and other educational formats sometimes work with specialist printing services to produce branded high-quality course materials to support studying.
Eddy Current is a non-destructive method of testing designed for inspecting discontinuities that are near to or on the surface of a material. The test uses electrical currents created in a conductive material via a magnetic field to identify changes in properties or imperfections in a material. Sensitive to miniscule discontinuities Eddy Currents has countless applications in industry today including weld inspections of materials in the aerospace sector.
The course will cover a wide range of topics including how to set up an Eddy Current unit with checks and calibration, basic principles of electricity and electromagnetism, impedance, induction and coils, vector diagrams and phase lag. It will also look at the effects of frequency, permeability, conductivity and real-world applications.
The Eddy Current Welds Level II course will begin on Monday the 10th of February at the TCS NDT training centre. The centre is sited at 124 Radium Street in Welshpool.
