The community of Welshpool, Western Australia, and surrounding areas within the City of Canning had reason to celebrate recently.
The annual Sunday Funday event this year also marked the arrival of the area’s 100,000th resident, which was acknowledged at a special presentation ceremony as a milestone in the city’s history.
Known to be a prolific metropolitan Perth-based multicultural community, the City of Canning statistics revealed in excess of 45% of residents hail from overseas.
In January 2015, it is expected a further 1,000 of the city’s residents will be sworn in as Australian citizens.
The milestone residents welcomed at the Sunday Funday celebrations were 18-month-old Indian-born twin sisters who settled in the area with their parents.
Commissioner Steven Cole said the girls represented the Canning community’s future and, in light of recently proposed boundary changes to Local Government Areas throughout Perth, would continue to contribute to the strong community spirit that exists throughout the city.
Helping to spread the cheer of this special day were free bumper cars, a giant slide, train rides, a bouncy castle, and several other rides and attractions.
Each year, flyer printing helps alert residents to Canning’s Sunday Funday event, which is held to celebrate and support all things connected to the city, as well as to bolster community spirit and bring locals together for one big celebration.
