Western Australia’s Print Industry Association and the Motor Trade Association have been approached to help promote the Green Stamp Accreditation Program (GSAP) within Welshpool and the City of Canning.
Their support has been enlisted as part of a new programme targeting commercial and light industrial enterprises in the area, and aimed at improving sustainable business.
The main aim of council’s Light Industry Programme, introduced this month, was to boost the quality of Canning and Swan River Catchments by reducing contaminants from commercial and light industrial activities.
City CEO Lyn Russell said the initiative links directly with plans to improve water quality by the Swan River Trust in the Canning Plain, Bannister Creek and Bullcreek Catchments.
She said enlisting the support of Print companies and the motor trade was considered an effective way to inform companies about best practices in regard to environmental management, as well as assisting them in meeting their obligations as part of the Light Industry Programme.
The idea, according to Russell, is to make available information both in traditional and digital printing formats that clearly lists acceptable practices for the disposal, storage and use of various types of liquid and solid materials.
In addition, local businesses will be inspected with an aim of improving processes and systems to help maintain the local natural environment.
City of Canning offices are working hand in hand with businesses to ensure a positive outcome for all, she added.
