Residents of the City of Canning, including Welshpool, are invited to attend this year’s Anzac Day commemoration.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a temporary halt to traditional Anzac Day services. Now, with restrictions easing, many State governments have indicated support for public commemorations. Safety plans will be required, and it appears likely that attendee numbers will be limited in some states.
Veterans have welcomed the option for live events while encouraging 2020’s private ‘Light Up the Dawn’ campaign to continue. Overseas ceremonies, including the Dawn Service at Gallipoli, have been cancelled due to the ongoing impacts of the pandemic.
The City of Canning will hold the Anzac Day event at the Civic Amphitheatre in Cannington. The service, to be hosted in partnership with the Canning Districts Sub Branch of the Returned Services League, will involve a wreath laying ceremony, with attendees invited to bring their own wreath. The Canning Lions Club and WA Sikh Association will serve complimentary light refreshments following the service.
The council has reminded the community to bring reusable water bottles to make use of the water station that will be provided. As public water stations increasingly form part of major event facilities, businesses sometimes offer relevant Promotional Products, such as Drinkware, to support safety and waste reduction.
Anzac Day has become a day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand to honour the contribution, sacrifice and spirit of all servicepeople. The City of Canning commemoration will take place from 8:00am on 25 April.
