A Cannington venue will showcase the Western Australian Scale Model Expo 2025 in August.
At the expo, up to 500 exhibitors may be present, with around 10,000 visitors expected. Each year, the event attracts scale model enthusiasts who are keen to view and demonstrate the craftsmanship and art of scale modelling. It is open to clubs and individuals alike.
Models exhibited might include military vehicles, aeroplanes, cars, ships, science fiction creations and figures. There is a Swap and Sell segment from 10 am until midday on the final day.
For the first time, there will be a Showcase Challenge featuring racing cars, and the prize for this is a 1/12 McLaren MP4/4 1988 figurine, which is worth $450. This is in addition to the popular Scale Modelling Championship, where hobbyists take part in friendly competition with a chance to win an award in up to 10 categories. There is no fee to enter any competition and no minimum standard of modelling.
Colourful poster printing, displayed locally, is often the draw for potential attendees to go along to a specific event.
The Western Australian Scale Model Expo will be taking place on 9 and 10 August, from 10 am until 4.30 pm, at the Cannington Exhibition Centre and Showgrounds. An adult ticket costs $10, under 13s pay $7 and children under six go free.
