The Your Move Award was won for the Route 1 project, which was completed recently and involved the establishment of a shared path stretching 2km. It provides better access to Bentley 360, some local schools and to the Queens Park Regional Open Space.
The path reflects what the City of Canning is trying to achieve as part of its walking and cycling plan, which is to give residents a greener and safer travel option both within the local area and further afield.
Mayor of Canning Patrick Hall says the award acknowledges the city's work to make the area more connected and safer, adding:
“As a keen cyclist, I know how vital it is for the community to be able to get from A to B safely and conveniently. The Route 1 cycle path complements the City’s 350km of footpaths and shared paths already in place to link pedestrians and cyclists to where they need to go.”
Printing services are often enlisted to ensure major pathways such as this are clearly signposted for easy access and use by community members.
The city has already begun construction of Route 2 of its five path projects, and Route 3 is in the design stage. All are expected to be completed within the next decade.
