A sporty start to 2013

Welcoming 2013 in with some top class Australian sport will no doubt be an exciting proposition for many in Western Australia, and Perth has two great options as we make the move from December into January.

First up for sporting fanatics in Perth is the Hyundai Hopman Cup. Now celebrating its 25th year, the tournament brings world-class tennis to Western Australia every year. A host of world number ones, from legends like Boris Becker to modern-day superstars like Serena Williams, have made appearances here in the past, while other players have gone on to achieve great things after starring here. This could be the place to see the next star of the sport.

Taking place in the fantastically luxurious new Perth Stadium, December 29 to January 5 is the perfect time to take in some terrific tennis, with tickets available from Ticketek Australia.

Another New Year sporting event in Perth, and perhaps cause for promotional banner and poster printing in nearby Welshpool, will be the Perth Cup races at Ascot Racecourse on January 1. This concludes the season’s Festival of Perth Racing and will be a great way to see in 2013 at trackside, with prestigious races like the $400,000 Golden River Developments Perth Cup.

A range of admission prices apply, with VIP packages available, so the best thing to do is have a look at the Perth Racing website for details of these, as well as racing plans for 2013.

It will be a great chance to burn off some excess Christmas pounds, as watching these events can be every bit as exhausting as playing them.
