West Melbournians say goodbye to Festive Hall

The proposal for a $65m apartment development has resulted in plans for demolishing the West Melbourne’s Festive Hall, despite some opposition to the decision.

The Festive Hall building, constructed around 100 years ago by John Wren, holds the historical reputation of hosting extremely famous bands such as the Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

A development proposal has been sent to the City Council of Melbourne. The plan involves using the Festive Hall land for the development of two apartment towers with 16 storeys each.

Although the apartment development project will result in most parts of the stadium being demolished, the aspects of the building with historic value, such as the Dudley St entrance and boxing ring, will be maintained and conserved.

However, residents in Melbourne will surely miss the iconic venue, which holds many of their memories of enjoying various live music events with friends and family.

West Melbourne has become a key location for apartment development due to the increasing population and rising demand of vertical living spaces. Home buyers or investors who are looking to purchase a property in the area may be interested in eyeing the new developments of the apartment towers involved in this project.
