King Kong under treatment in West Melbourne

King Kong the stage show was introduced to the world on October 7. Unfortunately, the life-size King Kong was still under construction in a West Melbourne workshop. When work is finished, and the show is finally launched, it will be the most expensive musical ever produced for the stage in Australia.

A crowd of 200 people witnessed the unveiling of the show in the ballroom of Melbourne’s Plaza Ballroom. They were introduced to the five human stars, and were treated to a selection of songs from the show. The audience's positive response to the songs probably caused the producers to give a sigh of collective relief.

The Sydney Morning Herald article on the production's launch shows the cast standing in front of a poster for the show. It looks like the kind of poster printing companies would be proud to call their own.

The show is being produced by Global Creatures, headed by Carmen Pavlovic. She told the Sydney Morning Herald that the show had been in development for nearly five years. If that seems like a long time, she did mention that it is among the most ambitious productions created in Australia.

If the launch of King Kong is successful, Pavlovic will be making plans to take it around the world. The show is a combination of circus, puppetry, orchestral music and stage projections. The plan is to use the technical expertise of Global Creatures to weave its visual magic around the simian star, and combine it with the pizzazz of an extravagant musical production.
