Writers Festival to return to Melbourne

For 2016, Melbourne will again be the venue for the annual Writers’ Festival. This year’s festival will concentrate on shared stories with both a national and international focus.

There will be more than 60 writers taking part, including children’s writer John Marsden, wordsmith David Astle, actor Magda Szubanski and graphic designer Eirian Chapman.

Melbourne Writers’ Festival is not an organisation seeking to make a profit; financial support to product the event comes from alliances and donations. Melbourne Writers Festival is a member of the Word Alliance, which partners to create a forum to showcase Australian writers to the rest of the world. This alliance allowed Melbourne to take part in global literary events by bringing the Edinburgh World Writers’ Conference to Australia in 2013.

The Festival offers the opportunity for participants to enter into interesting and stimulating discussions. The program will include storytelling, informal chats, constructive argument, live presentations, music, and other art events.

Previous writers’ festivals have appealed to an assorted group, including British politician and journalist Boris Johnson and blogger Maria Popova. Each year, the festival aims to appeal to a diverse audience, with more than 60,000 people attending in 2015.

The Festival caters for all ages and a large part of the festival events are free. Each year, it uses Flyers and poster printing to promote the activities.

The Melbourne Writers Festival will be open from 26th August to 4th September.
