Melbourne CBD to host tribute to iconic songwriter

A special evening in Melbourne CBD is hosting a tribute to a popular songwriter.

The name Burt Bacharach is synonymous with 20th century songs, as he was responsible for some of its most well-known hits by luminaries such as Petula Clark, Dionne Warwick and Tom Jones.

Bacharach’s work managed to capture the hearts of audiences all around the world with sophisticated arrangements and classic melodies. The Burt Bacharach Songbook is being hosted by duo Bobby Valentine and Wendy Stapleton. Known for frequently performing together, they will be joined by powerful musicians and vocalists that include Sam Leman, Craig Newman, Gerry Pantazis, John Arthur Grant, Lauren Elizabeth and Ally Mac.

Classic hits such as Walk On By, What’s New Pussycat and 24 Hours From Tulsa may well be performed on the evening.

Stapleton had the pleasure of meeting Bacharach in person and said:
“His charm and presence inspired me to look at creating a show full of his and Hal David’s amazing songs. Every song is a classic!”

Banner printing is one way in which musical events like this one can be publicised within the community.

The Burt Bacharach Songbook is taking place on Thursday, 3 September, from 7.30 pm until 11.30 pm. The venue is Bird’s Basement, which can be found on 11 Singers Lane in Melbourne. Tickets cost from $45.
