An event allowing aspiring Melbourne CBD writers to just come along and write is taking place in May in conjunction with the Melbourne Writers Festival.
Writing is often seen as a solitary pursuit. In May, writers are encouraged to join a venue where the writing takes centre stage. Attendees can write in companionable silence, with no need to share work or be under any kind of critical scrutiny. All are welcome, at whatever stage of writing journey they may be, for example, starting a new project or resurrecting a dusty draft.
The event is hosted by Xanthea O’Connor, who is the Senior Program and Special Projects Producer at the Wheeler Centre. It is part of the 40th Melbourne Writers Festival, which takes place from 7th until 10th May. This is an institution that brings together writers and readers with a diverse program that aims to inspire and challenge with the values of Excellence, Curiosity and Diversity at its core.

Shut Up and Write is taking place on Sunday 10th May, from 10am until 3pm, with a break in the middle for lunch. The venue is The Wheeler Centre, 176 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne 3000. The event is free to attend but it is necessary to register for a place.
