The Victorian government recently confirmed that the visitor economy had grown to almost $30 billion following a boost in domestic and international visitors. Figures released by Tourism Research Australia showed 11.2% growth in international visitors and 10.3% in domestic.
Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula said the growth in tourism was being felt across the state from the heart of Melbourne CBD to the pristine beaches and picturesque High Country, and added:
“These figures show we are on the right track and we’re getting on with attracting even more visitors from Australia and around the world to experience the thrill of our major events, natural wonders, iconic food and wine scene and world-class accommodation.”
Marketing strategies like brochure printing, flyer printing and major media campaigns have all been used to attract visitors and tourism supports in excess of 214,000 jobs throughout the state.
According to Pakula, an extensive calendar of local and major events is also helping to attract more visitors. He said Melbourne had experienced a 10.3% growth in tourism spending last year, bringing the total to $19 billion.
The growth in tourism had also benefitted from Victorians being keen to explore the many places and attractions of their own state.
