Innovative Japanese artist Takahiro Iwasaki presents a unique sculptured interpretation of some of his country’s most iconic landmarks in the latest exhibition at the NGV International in Melbourne, Victoria.
Presented as part of the Reflection Model series, the sculptures have already been admired as part of major international exhibitions and art fairs, and the best of these are now on show as part of the NGV Collection.
Representing a new generation of youthful artists, Iwasaki’s work is intricate and detailed, and explores a contemporary interpretation of iconic historic buildings and popular cityscapes.
Among the artwork on display is the Shinto shrine of Itsukushima, just one of seven of his country’s most sacred buildings.
Distinguishing factors of the exhibition include the way the artist interprets reflections of each building in the water that surrounds them.
The combination of the suspended 3D models with each building’s illusionary reflection is what makes this exhibition truly unique. Even brochure printers would have been bewitched by the images, which portray a touch of illusion to each static form.
Visitors and resident art lovers in Melbourne over the holiday season are urged to see the free exhibition.
Takahiro Iwasaki’s Reflection Model series sculptures will remain on show at the NGV International galleries at 140 St Kilda Road in the city until April 6th, 2015.
