Nominations open for top Melburnian award

Nominations for the 17th annual Melburnian of the Year award are currently being received with the winner to be announced at the Melbourne Town Hall, Melbourne CBD in November.

In what represents a ‘first’ for the awards, the public will be able to nominate someone they believe has made an outstanding contribution to Melbourne City.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp described the award as an ideal opportunity to celebrate and recognise a person or group who have been devoted to improving life within the city and who have become a role model inspiring others, adding:

"This year's Melburnian of the Year will be following some very inspirational footsteps. In 2018, the award winners were philanthropic duo Simone and Ian Carson AM who were recognised for their work founding renowned Melbourne non-profit organisation SecondBite, which gives food to people in need."

Jim Stynes OAM, Professor Sharon Lewin, Bryan Lipmann AM, Neale Daniher AM and Susan Alberti AC have all been previous winners.

Initiatives and projects will also be recognised with new categories covering Community, Arts and events, Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Aboriginal Melbourne, Hospitality and Urban Design.

Nominations are open to a vast array of groups, individuals and businesses whose work within the city can be focused on anything from health and the well-being of refugees to teaching key skills like graphic design.

Nominations close on June 7 with award winners announced on November 16.
