Melbourne CBD will be hosting the country’s biggest celebration of queer cinema, the Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), in November.
A smaller MQFF Together event was held in March of this year, and for the first time, the larger MQFF will be held in the month of November. This strategic move is meant to allow fresh opportunities from the LGBTIQ+ communities across Australia to showcase the breadth of their talent. Print shops are often used to Print marketing materials for the promotion of events like this.
The MQFF Festival dates back to February 1991, when it was called the Melbourne International Lesbian & Gay Film and Video Festival, and its first show, “Longtime Companion”, was held at the Dendy Brighton Cinemas. The remaining screenings happened at St Kilda’s National Theatre across the weekend. The festival used to be part of the Midsumma Festival, and it was renamed to Melbourne Queer Film and Video Festival in the following year. The name was finally changed to its present day name in 2003.
In 2018, the MQFF achieved record-breaking box office results. This resulted in a large amount of funding being set aside for the Australian Centre of Moving Image (ACMI), which is the primary venue of the festival.
The Melbourne Queer Film Festival will run from Thursday, November 18th to Monday, 29th November. Ticket prices range from $18.30 to $21.30. It will take place across multiple venues, which include Carlton’s Cinema Nova, South Yarra’s Village Cinemas Jam Factory and Federation Square’s ACMI.
