Melbourne CBD residents chance to chill out

Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is inviting residents to join the aquarium in meditating to increase mindfulness and help people who are finding the current restrictions in place in the CBD challenging.

The guided sessions are set to a background of fish and other sea creatures in their aquarium habitat. The first session features moon jellyfish and the second session follows schools of trevally with the odd stingray gliding past.

The aim of the aquarium’s Marine Mindfulness website “Soothing Sea Creatures” is to assist with relaxation and calming during the lockdown period. Studies have shown that the observation of fish and other sea creatures swimming and floating can enhance mood and reduce anxiety.

In addition to the meditation sessions, the website features yoga under the sea workouts, which are filmed in the Ocean Tunnel and are suitable for all ages. Also available is plenty of underwater television content including sharks, clownfish and turtles and a colouring in page for adults to download. Colouring in has also been shown effective in reducing stress and anxiety.

Marketing for online activities such as these will often employ striking graphic design to ensure content catches the attention of people browsing the site and to encourage participation.

All content – including a virtual aquarium – is available now and is free to access. For more information or to experience a guided meditation visit the Melbourne Aquarium website.
