Humanitarian council to discuss dealing with social problems

Examining ways to tackle contemporary social problems will be the focus of this year’s Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS) forum.

The event, to be held in Melbourne, Victoria, brings together performers, artists, political leaders, policy makers and speakers from around the world to build coalitions and share ideas and results.

The program features various guest speakers, including Professor Ian William Chubb AC, David Malouf, Michael Kirby AC CMG, Hugh Mackay, and Professor Denise Meredyth.

Topics to be covered will range from the safeguarding of freedom of expression and human rights to the role of the Humanities in the Anthropocene.

The inaugural CHASS Australia Prizes, awarded to honour major achievers within the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), will be announced at a special Forum Dinner to be held during the event.

It is hoped the Australia Prizes will shine an international light on the nation’s achievements in HASS, as well as on the many policy makers, philanthropists, practitioners, academics and students working in the area. The winners will receive prizes valued from $500 to $3,500 in four sections, from ‘students’ and ‘early career future leaders’ to ‘practice or policy making’ and ‘best book’.

Networking events such as this also provide a great opportunity to renew industry contacts and follow up meetings by sending digital Business Cards.

The CHASS Forum will be held at the Woodward Conference Centre on October 8th and 9th.
