According to Sally Capp, Melbourne’s Lord Mayor, the grants have played an important role in assisting local business entities to blossom into thriving brands.
Such recognition can help heighten awareness of the business name and Logo Design of winners, which have previously included chocolatier Koko Black in 2003 and the e.g.etal handmade jewellery gallery. She said past grant recipients had enjoyed great success and had also contributed much to the City’s diverse and rich tourism, sustainability, innovation and hospitality sectors.
Councillor Susan Riley, who heads the Small Business, Retail and Hospitality portfolio, said the 14 first round grant recipients will share $300,000.
This year, for the first time, the scheme will also offer a second round of small business grants totalling $500,000 for which applications are now being taken. Councillor Riley said grant recipients in round one were among Melbourne’s most innovative, adding:
"There's a huge variety of grant recipients this year for businesses doing amazing things.”
She said Social Enterprise funding had also been re-introduced.
Since 1996 when the City of Melbourne first introduced the highly successful Small Business Grants programme, about 400 of the city’s small businesses have received grant allocations from a total of about $8.3 million.
Other 2019 winners included Audioplay (Start-up category) and Tempus Entertainment (Expansion category).Get a Free Quote for Logo Design
