Film buffs flock to Melbourne for international festival

The Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is coming soon to the city, showcasing the world’s ultimate in current cinema together with international premieres, tributes, retrospectives and discussion programs.

Reaffirming its commitment to home-grown productions, MIFF will also showcase new Australian cinema, which is a dominant part of the program.

The festival is renowned for identifying emerging local talent and providing newcomers with an international platform for all to see, as well as applauding established film makers.

To be held from July 31st to August 17th, the program has been described by organisers as the strongest ever, with an eclectic selection of short films, documentaries and narrative features to suit all tastes.

The list includes slick Australian short film Blood Pulls A Gun, and a multi-awarded fable narrated by George Takei.

Younger viewers will enjoy a delightful collection of eight films as part of MIFF’s Next Gen program. School screening times have been included in the schedule to ensure as many children as possible can attend.

Complementing an extraordinary screening program will be a vast array of celebratory and industry events taking place throughout the city.

Banner printing has been enacted to ensure all events are easily accessible to both locals and visitors to the city centre.

A tradition that began in 1952 when the first film festival was held, the event has become one of the most significant and popular in Australia.
