Chance to explore city's unique buildings over one big weekend announced

An event that has reportedly inspired everyone from historians to architects is returning to Melbourne, Victoria.

Open House Melbourne is held over two days, providing a great opportunity for the public and interested professionals to inspect some of the city's most significant buildings.

According to organisers, the event showcases some of the places and unique spaces that modern-day Melbourne was built upon. It also puts the spotlight on key buildings, architecture and design, while giving free access for the optimum experience by all attendees.

In previous years, participants were reliant on a ballot system to gain access to the sites, but the 2015 programme has provided open access to nearly all buildings listed. There are, however, a number of locations subject to pre-booked tour placings.

Flyer and poster printing is expected to alert interested members of the public to tour booking options, which open on July 8th.

Organisers said that it was important to book early as spaces are limited and usually fill up quickly, especially for landmark locations that only open for inspection on one day.

Open House Melbourne Weekend operates from 10am to 4pm on July 25th and 26th.

Participants will be able to take advantage of self-guided tours, but organisers said that due to the event's popularity there may be some long queues between tour groups.

The event has attracted over 900 volunteers to help manage each aspect of the Open House Melbourne activities.
