The streets of Melbourne, Victoria, are set to be invaded by hundreds of runners dressed in their pyjamas and eager to raise money to assist children with heart defects.
Everyone is invited to take part in the event, which has been initiated by People’s Choice Credit Union to support the crucial work undertaken by Heartkids, a charity that aims to help families to get the best care and support possible.
Heart defects at birth are a condition experienced by over 2,000 babies annually, and it is estimated as many as 32,000 kids currently live with congenital heart disease nationwide. There is no known prevention or cure.
Jogging in PJs was described by organisers as a fun way to help such an important cause. They encouraged all age groups to take part and make it a day to remember. Photographs from the day would make great subjects for postcard printing or to post on social media.
People’s Choice Credit Union Managing Director Peter Evers said it was hoped such events could help expand the organisation’s life-saving services.
Funds raised on the day will benefit children across the nation, including those in the Northern Territory and South Australia, where there are no open heart surgery services and young patients need to travel to Melbourne for treatment.
Participants can run, walk or jog, and the pyjamas will be supplied for the run, which will be held on Sunday, July 27th from 10.40am.
