Women of Letters meeting 29th January

Presented by Marieke Hardy and Michaela McGuire, Women of Letters is a literary event held on the last Sunday of every month and is described as:

‘a perfect combination of inspiration and comedy where five writers from different backgrounds, ranging from pop star to comedian to fiction writer to poet, read out a letter penned to the topic of the month.’

The event re-captures the lost art of letter writing, when a person or company would use special writing paper, maybe even designed and purchased from a Stationery printers, hand write a letter, put it in the post box and then, just wait. It elicits certain nostalgia for when letters took time to arrive and instant written communication was an idea for science fiction stories.

Kitty, a fan of the events said about the first time she attended a panel,

‘I cried, laughed and swore all while sipping champagne. I have never looked back.’

Kitty loves that midway through the event you are given the chance to write your own letter and you are even given a free stamp by the curators McGuire and Hardy.

‘I can’t recommend this event enough,’ continues Kitty,’ it’s like a once a month, $15 therapy session where women you see on television, listen to on the radio or have written Books you read, speak so frankly, honestly and unashamedly.’

Already a popular event attended by women in nearby suburbs like Hawthorn, Women of letters is held at the Thornbury Theatre and all proceeds of the literary event go to The Edgars Mission, a farm animal sanctuary.
